I started this blog some months back as a place to show new snapshots now and then. I never have gotten around to introducing it and saying a few words about what it will be about, so I’ll do a brief intro here.
I’ve been involved with photography for about forty years now, and I’ve had a few different incarnations of photography blogs over the past ten years. Some have been experiments, one was alive for six years and still exists as an archive, some have been abandoned simply because I hadn’t decided where to go with them. I’ve tried different blogs for different types of photography, I’ve given them clever names, but none of them worked for me. I’ve decided to just post under my own name and let this blog grow it’s own legs and go in whatever direction it decides to go. It’ll probably grow slowly.
Over the years I’ve used several different cameras. I tried 4×5 which I didn’t like to use one bit and ditched as soon as I could. I used a medium format TLR for several years, and got along well with it. 35mm was by far my favorite though. I used a DSLR for a while, but got fed up with it and switched to using a phone about three years ago. I’ve never looked back. The fluidity and spontaneity of the phone have freed up my snapshooting like nothing has before and it’s become my instrument of choice. At this point in my life I can do anything I want to do with my droid. A “real” camera feels like a rock in my hand. I may use one again someday, or I may not. My way of working is very simple and for now the droid is all I need and want.
How I run this blog (as well as my other blog buzztail) is just as simple. I’m not a very prolific shooter. I don’t go out taking pictures because I feel I should. I only take snapshots of things that compel me. I don’t sell my stuff. This blog will be a place where I can post a picture if I deem it worthy, and where I can write about some aspect of photography if I so choose. Just as importantly, if I have nothing to show or say I can simply keep my mouth shut and not post anything. That will happen too.
With that I’ll just say stop on by once in awhile and see what’s up. And don’t be shy — let me know what you think if you’re so inclined.
